Philippine Basketball Stats

While I was having a discussion with patay-butiki about Japeth's performance last week, it suddenly occured to me... For a country so obsessed with basketball, why are we lagging so far behind when it comes to keeping statistics?

The PBA website on Inquirer.net does have box scores and stats, but there are a few shortcomings:

1) The scores, at least for 2013-14, are in JPEG format and cannot be copied and pasted.
2) They do not contain stats such as PER and +/-, both of which are reliable measures of player efficiency and his impact on the game.
3) The score archives cover only the 2013-14 season and the current one.

There are also FIBA live stats available online which contain +/- and shot charts.

One of the things that struck the Gilas coaching staff last year was how the Lithuanian camp used advanced statistics to analyze games, and that the stats were available right after the final buzzers have sounded. I was thinking that since we have a lot of members here who are stat freaks, maybe we could pool together our talents to tabulate whatever statistics we can get online and, for example, compute the standard deviations for all the starters (including Japeth) in the league. Then we can go into analyzing all the other players' performances.

What do you say, guys?
