Philippines have pretty skilled guards but a lack of big men, our DDO (Dribble drive offense) is criticized by other viewers as being too primitive which is true and it is a very obvious attacking strategy once they know what we are doing. Therefore, I think we should change some offensive and defensive philosophies.
Of course the first thing we should do is run run and run. A run and gun game is obvious since they have to maximize their lack of height by running. But that doesn't mean we don't have set plays. Set plays wise, more off-ball screens and pick and pop and more player movement aka South Korea would be good.
Offense Wise
Also I think they should implement HORNS offense (Requires very good ballhandling and passing skills which Gilas has) Let Castro/Lee be the ballhandler. Basically it works like that, get a big guy to stand at the high post (Blatche), get a guard who can handle/pass/penetrate well (Castro/Lee) will be my choice, and a shooter at the corner 3 (Jeff Chan/David/ Alapag) the guard will pass to blatche at the high post while making a run and cut from the outer side using Blatche as a screen. the defender will be trailing behing the attacking guard because of the blatche screen.
A few things can happen...
1) The center guarding Blatche tries to step over to guard the penetrating guard whom can easily pass back the ball to Blatche for the easy drive or shot.
2) The center does not step over to help leading to the easy penetration and layup.
3) Another defending player (Guy guarding the corner shooter) tries to come over as help defense, which then (Castro/Lee) can pass out to the corner shooter for an easy 3.
This system is way more versatile then jacking 3's almost 100% of the time as there is penetration and movement.

Against teams with weaker guards and handling skill (Senegal) I would say we can safely employ the full court press/double teams and maximum pressure to them to cost as many turnovers as possible and for easy buckets. Packing the paint would be a good idea too as most of gilas points allowed are inside the paint. (But then again if you pack the paint, you can't employ maximum pressure defense, you have to weigh in what works on different teams) Maybe on teams with horrendous outside shooting or bad shooting night (Aka France), we can pack the paint.
Pinoy players have lack of height, but that doesn't necessary mean they cannot play defense. Look at how Muggsy Bogues (5'3) defend taller players. He basically plays hustle defense and apply maximum pressure. Keep a low body stance, stay very close and try to disrupt and get the steal. There was once a player commented on bogues defense that he felt like there were 5 muggsy bogues out there.. Yes taller players can shoot over you (But remember they have to bring the ball down and up in a shooting motion, this motion is called a dip) before they can shoot, aim the ball at the point where they are doing "the dip", or worst case scenario play face-defense. Cover their face to make them uneasy when shooting. Hands and feet have to be very active you cannot afford to be lazy on defense if you are shorter, use it to your advantage.
